The appeasement of Dotard Trump

A special plea to American readers

We in Britain are about to endure a state visit by Dotard Trump. It is an unprecedented and gratuitous honor to him. It is an insult to all the victims of his policies in the United States (who may well include British people) and the world and a betrayal of all those Americans trying to resist them often at great personal risk. It is the culmination of a consistent policy of appeasement of Trump by Britain's Labour government, of which I am deeply ashamed as a veteran Labour supporter.

Under Keir Starmer, in opposition and in government, Labour has pursued an asymmetric policy: dissent from Trump (if any) whispered privately and therefore kept from the American people, but copious public tributes, thanks and flattery for Trump, and an elaborate pretence that his is a "normal" and rational administration. Although marginally, this policy favors Trump and helps him keep his grip on domestic US politics. Although there are many more urgent issues for them to worry about, it would be helpful to us Brits if all US opponents of Trump protested Starmer's policy. Trump flattery is at its worst from Starmer's chosen representative,  Lord (Peter) Mandelson, whose embassy has become an emetic embarassment. A separate note on this follows. As Someone Else might say, THANK YOU FOR YOUR ATTENTION TO THIS MATTER. More information and comment on request.
